If there’s one thing I love about fall & winter fashion, it’s that you don’t necessarily need an entirely new wardrobe to make your outfits feel new again. Sometimes, the right accessory is all it takes.
This season, accessories are anything but an afterthought. The Fall/Winter 2026 runways were filled with beautiful details that made even simple outfits feel intentional, from statement belts & vintage inspired brooches to oversized jewelry & elegant gloves. The best part? So many of these trends can work with pieces you probably already have in your closet.
Here are the seven accessories I think are worth adding to your wardrobe this fall & winter.
1. A Statement Belt
The belt is officially back to being an important part of the outfit & this season, the buckle is the star.
Western inspired & oversized buckles appeared throughout the Fall/Winter 2026 collections, including at Chloé & Ralph Lauren, while Dior showed a more polished medallion interpretation.
You don’t have to go full Western to wear the trend. A beautiful leather belt with an interesting gold or silver buckle can completely transform your favorite jeans, trousers, blazer, or even a coat.
For something that feels timeless, I would look for dark brown, black, burgundy or cognac leather with substantial hardware.
How I’d wear it: White button down, straight leg denim, loafers & a brown leather statement belt.
2. The Silk Scarf
A beautiful scarf may be one of the easiest ways to make an outfit look more expensive.
Vogue called scarves one of the standout accessories for Fall 2026, with designers showing everything from printed silk scarves to longer fringed versions. They were worn traditionally around the neck, but also draped over shoulders & even styled around the waist.
I especially love a vintage inspired silk scarf because there are so many ways to wear one. Tie it around your neck with a sweater, wrap it around your handbag handle, wear it as a belt, or drape it over a coat.
Look for burgundy, chocolate brown, cream, olive, equestrian prints or rich jewel tones for fall.
If your wardrobe is mostly neutral, this is also the perfect place to experiment with cobalt blue, which ELLE is highlighting as an important color emerging from the Fall/Winter 2026 collections.
3. A Vintage Inspired Brooch
This might be my favorite accessory trend of the season.
Brooches have been appearing everywhere from Chanel & Khaite to Dior, Loro Piana, Etro & Ralph Lauren. Floral versions are particularly noticeable this fall, alongside more traditional vintage inspired pins.
I love this trend because you can easily find beautiful vintage brooches without spending a fortune & no one else will have exactly the same one.
Pin one to the lapel of an oversized blazer, add one to a wool coat, use it to secure a scarf, or even add one to a simple knit sweater.
It’s such a small detail, but it instantly makes an outfit feel more personal.
4. Bold Jewelry, Especially Gold & Pearls
Put the tiny, barely there jewelry aside for a moment. This season is giving us permission to have a little more fun.
ELLE spotted bold ’80s inspired gold jewelry at Saint Laurent, Mugler & Celine, while oversized pearls appeared at Valentino. Vogue also highlighted pearls & charm filled necklaces as important accessories for Fall 2026.
Think chunky gold earrings, sculptural bracelets, long pendant necklaces & oversized or imperfect pearls.
You don’t need to wear everything at once. One statement piece with a very simple outfit is enough.
Personally, I love the idea of chunky gold earrings + a black turtleneck + jeans + a great coat. It’s incredibly simple but looks polished.
5. A Bag With Character
Instead of buying another basic handbag, this season look for something with a little personality.
Fall/Winter 2026 bags are moving in several directions, from elegant clutches & structured top handle bags to oversized carryalls & softer, lived in leather. Vogue highlighted the clutch & practical carryall among the season’s key silhouettes, while Marie Claire has noted the rise of worn in leather bags in shades such as tobacco & oxblood.
That slightly vintage, already loved leather look is particularly beautiful for fall.
If you’re buying one new bag, I would look at oxblood/burgundy, chocolate brown, tobacco, deep olive or black rather than automatically choosing another basic neutral.
Oxblood in particular looks gorgeous against cream, camel, gray & denim.
6. Leather Gloves
Gloves are practical, obviously, but Fall/Winter 2026 is treating them as part of the outfit rather than something you throw on because it’s cold.
Long, elegant gloves appeared across the runways, with Vogue highlighting opera length styles & Who What Wear pointing to over the elbow leather gloves in colors including olive, black, gray & burgundy.
If opera gloves feel a little dramatic for everyday life, a classic wrist length leather glove gives you the same polished feeling.
Try cream leather with a camel coat, burgundy with gray, or classic black with an all black outfit.
It’s very old school chic in the best possible way.
7. A Statement Hat
Fall is officially giving us a reason to move beyond the baseball cap.
Structured hats were another recurring accessory on the Fall/Winter 2026 runways. Vogue specifically highlighted wool & felt styles with more shape & structure than the traditional winter beanie.
A wool pillbox inspired hat, felt bucket hat, structured cap or beautiful wide brim style can make the simplest coat & jeans combination suddenly feel styled.
For something you’ll keep for years, stick with camel, chocolate brown, charcoal, cream or black. If the rest of your wardrobe is neutral, this could also be the perfect accessory to introduce a richer seasonal color.
The Colors to Watch This Fall & Winter
If you’re not ready to commit to an entire outfit in a trending color, accessories are the easiest way to bring one into your wardrobe.
For Fall/Winter 2026, I’m especially watching oxblood & burgundy, chocolate brown, tobacco, olive green, cream, cobalt blue & gold. Rich textures are just as important as color, so suede, distressed leather, faux fur, silk & croc effect finishes can make even a very simple accessory feel special.
But as always, you don’t need every trend.
The best accessory is the one that makes something you already own feel exciting again. A vintage brooch on your favorite blazer, a silk scarf with a white shirt, or a beautiful belt over an old coat can completely change an outfit without changing your entire wardrobe.
That, to me, is what great personal style is really about.
